3 Epoxy Flake Mistakes To Avoid

Bad Color Combinations

Epoxy flakes come in dozens of colors than can be used in a solid formation as well as mixed together. Although it is personal preference, we recommend using colors that compliment each other. For instance, a light blue, dark blue and white color combination is very attractive. It is also important that you take the color of your walls and furniture into consideration when deciding what colors to use on your floor.

Miscalculating Amount Of Flakes Needed

One of the biggest mistakes that an installer can make when applying a flake floor is miscalculating the amount of flakes needed to fully broadcast the floor. If you do underestimate the amount that you need, you will have to adapt on the fly and decide whether you are going to do less than 100% coverage or leave spaces uncoated. A good rule of thumb is to always order more flakes than you think just to be sure to have the quantity to broadcast at 100% coverage.

Uneven Application

It is important to get an even application of flakes in order to have a good looking floor, otherwise, your floor will end up looking splotchy. It is beneficial to practice broadcasting the chips before you actually lay them on the epoxy. You can always sweep them up to reuse them when you are ready for the real deal. To broadcast the flakes evenly, grab a handful and throw it up in the air like you are feeding chickens. Continue this over the entire surface you want to cover until it is at a thickness you are happy with.
